The import takeaway here is that travel isn't about some overly Americanized pop bubble version of some destination to me. It is about the people and their joys and struggles. The food. The culture. The landscape.
This blog is for serious travelers. The kind that want to see everything and go everywhere. Even when your home, as lovely as your life may be, the airport and/or the open road calls you frequently. Like an addiction. It will ruin your life and make it amazing all at once. You will have to work for an airline or a hotel or find opportunities to create easy access to your travel addiction. Almost every time you are on your flight home from some amazing trip, you are already thinking about the next adventure and narrowing down the next destination your going to before you ever get home.
The world is seemingly divided on their stance of gay rights. Russia arrests gays or people speaking out for gay rights. Nigeria, Kenya, Jordan, Indonesia all have strong intolerance for homosexuals. Then their are places like the Philippines, Argentina, Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic all have made great strides toward equal rights, including, but not limited to making gay marriage legal. In this divide, there is certainly a number of international countries that support gay rights and also support aid in Uganda. This may have been of influence when the the president of Uganda, President Yoweri Museveni refused to pass the bill in January.
The story of how the Ugandan government will regard and deal with its homosexual population is far from over. One thing is for certain, being gay in Uganda today is at the very least a struggle.
